What are license points and how do they work?

In Virginia every moving violation is either a 3, 4 or 6 point offense. So if you if you’re convicted of a moving violation you are going to get some sort of demerit points from the Virginia DMV. If you’re out of state usually what happens is you’re going to have a violation in Virginia, be found guilty of something that’s going to transfer your home state and then they’re going to apply their own point system to it. So are there are a couple states that do not carry over points or or convictions from Virginia but that’s certainly the exception. Nine times out of ten if you get convicted of something in Virginia, there’s going to be license consequences in your state.
